XERISCAPING WATER WISE GARDENING

Water use more than doubles in the summer months from activities like washing cars, filling
pools and watering the garden. One of the biggest users of water is the lawn. On a hot, sunny day the average lawn can use    as much as 125 gallons of water per 1000 sq. feet. On a cloudy day this can be as little as 10 gallons per 1000 square feet. People are talking about saving water.

This may be a sign of a growing sense of environmental stewardship, or simply the fact that water bills have doubled in recent years. Either way there is a definite trend away from watering the garden. Fortunately there are many plants that will tolerate a certain measure of neglect. In addition some simple gardening techniques help to increase moisture retention and minimize water loss when you do water.
